The Meaning of the Artwork
"The Rift of Vision" is a reflection on the fracture that runs through everything: the world, consciousness, existence itself. It is the visible manifestation of a deeper truth: the universe is not a collection of isolated parts, but a balance of opposing tensions, a continuous dance between the known and the unknown, light and shadow, presence and absence.
The golden fracture that cuts across the surface is not a wound, but a threshold. It does not divide but reveals. It is the passage through which the duality of being manifests, the boundary that compels us to look beyond, to confront what lies beyond immediate perception. The eye immersed in gold, emerging from the material, represents inner vision—the ability to recognize that reality is not a sharp line, but a woven fabric of contrasts and correspondences.
To look through the Rift means to accept the paradox, to understand that the sense of wholeness is not found in uniformity, but in the harmonious coexistence of differences. Beauty does not reside in perfect symmetry, but in the meeting of fragments, in the interweaving of seemingly distant perspectives, in the tension that generates movement and transformation.
The universe is not static, but relational. Everything exists because it is in dialogue with its opposite; every identity is defined through the other. To embrace the fracture means to recognize that unity is not the absence of division, but the awareness that every element of existence is interconnected, part of a greater balance, in which one exists only because the other does.
Materials and Technique
The artwork was created through a layered process that combines elements of sculpture and painting, giving rise to a textured and dynamic surface.
The base consists of dry clay, modeled directly onto the canvas through various sculptural phases. This process ensured perfect adhesion to the support and structural solidity, allowing the texture to emerge strongly without compromising its durability over time.
Once the surface was sculpted, a first coat of blue acrylic paint was applied, covering the entire piece and creating an intense and uniform base. In the third phase, gold leaf was then applied along the fracture to emphasize the contrast between light and shadow, depth and revelation.
After 24 hours of drying, the entire artwork was sealed with a water-based varnish, ensuring lasting protection while preserving the luminosity of the gold and the depth of the blue acrylic.
The result is a fusion of painting and sculpture, where material, color, and light interact to create a visual and tactile experience that invites the viewer to immerse themselves in the meaning of the artwork.
